Supervision

Are you in need of clinical supervision as you pursue your LMFT, LPC or LPCC license in Minnesota?

Sarah is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and also board approved to provide supervision for those who are pursuing their Minnesota LMFT, LPC and LPCC licenses.

She has extensive experience supervising therapy cases involving children, adults and families. Including, providing supervision for supervisees who have worked with individuals who have experienced a variety of stressors and mental health symptoms including; depression, anxiety, abuse, struggles with relationships and difficulty managing anger.  In addition to focus on case review, she encourage supervisees to consider self of the therapist issues and prioritizing their own self care.

Sarah is available to meet with potential supervisees in person or over the phone prior to beginning supervision.   This is a time to know each other and discuss our beliefs and values about therapy in order to ensure that a supervisory relationship would be beneficial.

Her supervision contract is created with input from her supervisees in order to ensure that all expectations are clear at the beginning of the supervisory relationship.

As you evaluate your options for supervision, you may enjoy reading this blog post which addresses factors to consider when choosing a supervisor.

Philosophy of Supervision

A brief summary of her philosophy of supervision follows, but any current or potential supervisees may request a complete copy.

Sarah believes it is important to devote time to developing a supervisory relationship that is based on a sense of safety, trust and shared goals.   She also believes it is important to discuss how both the supervisor and the supervisee approach therapy and supervision including; our values and beliefs about therapy our theoretical orientations.  She believes it is ok to enter into a supervisory relationship if there are differences in these areas, but that it is important that both parties are aware of these differences and comfortable with the differences.

Sarah tailors her approach to the developmental needs of each supervisee as she believe supervisees need different levels of support and intervention based on their level of training and experience. She works with her supervisees on identifying areas of focus for our supervision in order to make sure that the supervision provided is as valuable as possible.

Sarah strives for a supervisory approach that empowers her supervisees.  She believes that supervisees learn more when the focus is on developing a therapist’s skills, rather than telling a supervisee what to do.

Sarah is committed to continual personal learning and development as a supervisor.  She plans to learn through additional courses on supervision, continued reading and continued experiences supervising therapists.
