Don’t We All Want To Be Vibrant Therapists?

You may have read my previous post about the qualities of vibrant therapists and wondered……”Don’t we all want to be vibrant therapists?”

Generally speaking, YES!

I agree that given a choice most therapists would say they desire feeling vibrant in all realms of their life. Note: Vibrancy is not about achieving a perfect balance or having it all together, but rather a combination of mindset + strategies to navigate the ebbs and flows of private practice and life outside of the therapy office.

The wanting to be a vibrant therapist is actually probably the easiest part. In fact, I would argue that we are all already vibrant therapists, but may have become disconnected from that sense of vibrancy

For many of the therapists I speak to and work with, envisioning what it would look like to actually feel more vibrant is a challenge.   Figuring out how to make their vision a reality can become overwhelming.

In the day to day of running a practice and managing family life outside of work, it can feel exhausting to even think about planning and implementing changes.

If you can relate to what I’m describing above; you are not alone.  I was there, too.   My personal experience with being overwhelmed and depleted is what inspired me to start experimenting with how I was approaching my work. This eventually led me to supporting other therapists through The Vibrant Therapist Consulting.

So, what gets in the way of us being vibrant therapists?

As I’ve reflected on my personal experience and work with other therapists I’ve identified a number of factors that may be contributing to us showing up as less than our vibrant selves.

Are any of these getting in your way right now?

  • Trying to do it all and finding ourselves pulled in a million directions.

  • Always making time to tend to others and not making enough time & space for our own needs

  • Mindset blocks without an effective strategy to address them.   Including an abundance of “shoulds,” comparison and self doubt

  • Trying to model our practice after someone else’s success rather than finding a way to approach our practice that works for us

  • Avoidance of healthy risk-taking

  • Failure to give ourselves permission to evolve as therapists and business owners.  Rushing ourselves or alternatively getting stuck in doing things the way we always have even when it no longer serves us to do so.

  • Struggling allow authentic selves to be seen, to be vulnerable, to take risks.

  • Letting busy-ness consume us

How can I become a Vibrant Therapist?

There is no universal answer to this question, but here are some good places to start:

  1. Establish and hold boundaries that allow you the space to be more vibrant.
  2. Commit to willingness to evolve and grow; take risks and try again when you mis-step.
  3. Don’t allow yourself to become overwhelmed by all that you think you need to do; begin implementing change by taking one step
  4. Surround yourself with loved ones and colleagues who are supportive of your desire to become more vibrant.  You need support people who will cheer you on AND hold you accountable.

You are worth the investment of time and energy it takes to become allow your vibrant self to shine.   Please do not hesitate to reach out and let me know how I can support you in this process.

Take Care,

Sarah
